Painting

Written By: Debriella Debrecki

With all of the overwhelming feelings that come along with quarantine and the state of the country, I often find myself lost, unmotivated, and unhappy. One day while I was sitting in bed, I decided enough was enough, I had to find something that I could put my heart and soul into again. I went into my mom’s room and grabbed her full suitcase of paints, a canvas, and some brushes. I made up a little work station for myself and sat down. I sat there for a long while, my brain completely blank.

When I finally picked up a brush and began to create, I had an instant rush of joy. Why is it so easy to forget the things that make you so happy? It seems to me that we get so wrapped up in what is life and our individual responsibilities that we convince ourselves that we do not have time to just relax, and be...happy. Painting has become my outlet. I am able to use the materials to express my emotions in creative ways, or even make something that has no meaning to it at all. It doesn’t even matter!

For me, it is not about what I create but the way my art makes me feel. I would not call myself a good artist, no no. But you do not have to have a single ounce of artistic abilities to make art. That is why it is so great, it is subjective, contrary to many of the things that we surround ourselves with daily. Whether it is painting, creating music, taking pictures, whatever it may be, it is so important that you have an activity that you LOVE. Allow yourself to take time for yourself and just relax.

Turn off your phone, turn off the news, put on some tunes and be happy :) I want to share some of the paintings I have done, and see what creations you make! Post a picture of you doing your favorite activity that makes you happy!
